Microsoft propose depuis quelques heures une nouvelle mise à jour cumulative pour Windows 10, KB4090913. Disponible uniquement pour les PC sous Fall Creators Update, elle peut poser problème avec certaines configurations.
Microsoft signe une mise à jour qui n’est pas sans risque pour les ordinateurs Windows 10. KB4090913 est censé résoudre des problèmes avec certains périphériques USB. Il apparait que son installation peut provoquer des bugs dans certains cas. Pour le moment, il s’agit de rapports relativement isolés mais dans l’absolu prétendre à une maintenance engendre normalement la résolution de défaillance et non à en créer.

Plusieurs utilisateurs font état d’une erreur ne permettant pas d’aboutir à son installation. Un message stipulant une installation impossible à terminer apparait et le code erreur 0x80070643 est renvoyé. De là les systèmes reçoivent automatiquement la mise à jour en question et une autre tentative d’installation échouée est observée. Le processus se poursuit inlassablement créant alors une boucle infinie tant que le correctif n’est pas complètement masqué et bloqué dans le service Windows Update.
Il n’y a pas d’explication officielle. Sur Reddit certains avancent l’idée d’un souci avec les processeurs AMD mais Microsoft n’a jamais évoqué cette possibilité.
Si une possible installation défaillante accompagne KB4090913 ce n’est pas l’unique problème. Dans d’autres cas, elle empire la situation avec certains périphérique USB comme avec la souris Logitech G502. Des utilisateurs parlent d’un plantage du PC avec un belle écran bleu (BSOD).
Un petit changement a cependant été apporté par Microsoft dans le fichier de version de cette mise à jour. A l’origine KB4090913 n’apportait que des correctifs autour de problèmes avec des périphériques USB. Il est désormais mentionné la correction d’un bug empêchant certains périphériques de démarrer avec l’erreur INACCESSIBLE BOOT_DEVICE. A cela s’ajoute la disparition du problème suivante
« Symptom – After installing this update, some devices may fail to start, and return INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE. This issue occurs when the windows update servicing stack incorrectly skips installing the newer version of some critical drivers in the cumulative update and uninstalls the currently active drivers during maintenance. »

Windows Update History reports that KB4054517 failed to install because of error 0x80070643.
Workaround
Even though the update was successfully installed, Windows Update incorrectly reports that the update failed to install. Select Check for Updates to verify that there are no additional updates available.
You can also type About your PC in the search box on the taskbar to verify that your device is using the expected OS build.
Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.
Symptom
Because of an issue that affects some versions of antivirus software, this fix applies only to computers on which the antivirus ISV updated the ALLOW REGKEY.
Workaround
Contact your antivirus manufacturer to verify that their software is compatible and that they have set the following REGKEY on the computer:

Symptom
Because of an AD FS server issue that causes the WID AD FS database to become unusable after a restart, the AD FS service may fail to start.
Workaround
There is no way to undo the database corruption. To return your AD FS server to a functional state, you must restore it from a backup.
As usual, there’s no need to install the update manually. You can get it by heading over to Settings -> Update & security -> Windows Update -> Check for updates.
